Slovenia to promote itself as a movie location

A new filming incentive aims to promote Slovenia as a great location for making movies and television programmes

From January 2017 a generous 25% rebate will be available to companies that shoot their movies in Slovenia. This will apply to documentaries, international films, television shows and animations but all projects will be subject to a cultural test and must work with a Slovenian producer FNE (Film New Europe).

This has been welcomed by Slovenia’s film-making professionals, especially because Slovenia’s neighbouring countries already have similar incentives in place. As well as boosting employment opportunities for Slovenian film professionals, there should be a knock-on effect for hotels, caterers and other local businesses, while it is also hoped that greater exposure of Slovenian locations will be good for tourism too.

In the past Slovenia has been the location for such big movies as The Chronicles of Narnia (partly filmed in the Soča valley), Armour of God (starring Jackie Chan and filmed at Predjama Castle near Postojna) and more recently Thala 57, an Indian action movie scheduled for release in 2017.
