Slovenia’s most visited tourist attraction has hit the million visitors mark for 2016

Postojna Cave has announced that it has received its millionth visitor of 2016. The last time the complex, which is the nost-visited attraction in Slovenia, hit that figure was back in 1985. Although visitor numbers have been good this year, the arrival of the millionth visitor took by surprise Postojnska jama, the company which operates the complex which comprises the vast show-caves, the Vivarium – home to the iconic humanfish, nearby Predjama Castle, and a hotel and other visitor facilities. Due to this oversight, the millionth visitor didn’t get the fanfare and the planned free tour of the caves and the company’s other attractions.

The increased number of visitors in recent years has been partly attributed to the change in ownership which happened in 2010 and more recently to the arrival of baby olms, or humanfish as they are more affectionately known. This new ownership and the new stars of the cave have given Postojna Cave much needed international exposure.
