Triglav National Park
Triglav National Park is the only national park in Slovenia and one of the country’s most remarkable natural regions. Located in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia, it is known for dramatic mountain scenery, crystal-clear rivers, alpine lakes, deep valleys and traditional mountain villages.
The park takes its name from Mount Triglav, Slovenia’s highest peak at 2.864 metres and one of the country’s most important national symbols.
The Heart of the Julian Alps
Triglav National Park covers a large part of the Julian Alps and includes some of Slovenia’s most iconic landscapes.
Lake Bohinj, the Valley of the Triglav Lakes and the upper Soča Valley are among its best-known natural attractions, while numerous mountain trails offer exceptional opportunities for hiking, climbing and exploring the alpine landscape.
The park is also home to rich wildlife and diverse alpine vegetation, including chamois, ibex, marmots and golden eagles.
Bohinj and the Soča Valley
Bohinj is one of the main gateways to Triglav National Park and is particularly known for Lake Bohinj, the largest permanent natural lake in Slovenia.
The western part of the park extends towards the Soča Valley, famous for the emerald-green Soča River and some of the most spectacular scenery in the Slovenian Alps.
Bovec, Kobarid, Trenta and Tolmin are popular bases for exploring this part of the region.
Cultural Heritage and Alpine Lifestyle
The area is characterized not only by natural beauty but also by a strong cultural identity.
Traditional alpine architecture, mountain pastures, livestock farming and cheese-making remain an important part of local life. The wider Julian Alps region is also recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Property Near Triglav National Park
The areas surrounding Triglav National Park are among the most desirable locations in Slovenia for holiday homes, second residences and lifestyle properties.
Bohinj, Bled, Kranjska Gora and the Soča Valley attract both Slovenian and international buyers thanks to their exceptional natural environment, year-round tourism and limited property supply.
Properties within or close to protected areas may be subject to planning and conservation restrictions, making professional due diligence particularly important before purchase.
High-quality properties in the most sought-after locations are often scarce, especially those combining privacy, mountain views and easy access to nature.
Triglav National Park represents the very best of Slovenia’s alpine landscape — an exceptional combination of natural beauty, outdoor lifestyle and long-term appeal.
