Description
Historical significance
The castle has a long and interesting history dating back to the 14th century, with its first mention recorded in 1311. It was built by the Grätzer family from Graz, and over the centuries it passed into the hands of numerous noble families and important figures. Among its most famous residents was the Slovenian writer Janez Trdina, who wrote part of his renowned work "Fairy Tales and Stories about the Gorjanci" here.
Although the castle was damaged during the Second World War, its central medieval tower is still preserved. In 1952, restoration works were carried out to prevent further deterioration, and although it is awaiting a comprehensive renovation, it still stands majestically at the foot of the picturesque Gorjanci.
